The North-South Centre of the Council of Europe massive open online course on Global Education is an introduction to GE concept, its competences, methodological approaches, and resources to support GE understanding, practice, monitoring, evaluation and learning. Its structure has been designed to reinforce a practical approach and enable participants to tackle different aspects of GE in a learning or a training context.

I developed the eLearning course and the materials associated with it. Also, there is a workshop and I developed the digital materials too. It means, presentations, books, pdf’s, motion graphics, illustrations, post-production video, and audio.

How it works

As a self-learning course, the user can browse through whenever wants and take all the time needs.

This self-learning course, divided into four thematic modules, is filled with presentations, interactive information, videos, podcasts, reflective exercises and self-learning assessment tools.

Each module is estimated to be completed in 60 minutes. The finalization of the four modules offers a certificate delivered by the Council of Europe.

The course is available for everyone for free, you just need to create an user account on HELP platform. Click on this link to access it.

The Design and development project

The course aims to foster multiple perspectives and the deconstruction of stereotypes, triggering empathy and openness to other cultures, beliefs, worldviews, and practices. Global education inspires critical awareness of global challenges. This being told, my goal was to design a refreshing and fun course, easy to navigate and appealing to the eye.

The creative content on it, as illustrations, photographs, and motion graphics searched for being inclusive. In this way, all content includes a wide range of gender, age, and cultural diversity.

Each screen is created with love and care. All screens are animated and each illustration was carefully designed. As each screen has a different cute animation, the user always has a different surprise to discover. The course became highly dynamic and fun.

During the course, exists a lot of hidden content to explore. As it is interactive, the user must click on the different buttons. When clicked, is revealed more information, videos, motion graphics, podcasts, tables, or pdf’s.

For example, the user can control when the podcast audio starts and ends. Below are some of the buttons used during the course.

There are some interactive exercises and quizzes around the course too.

Throughout the course the user finds some questions to reflect on. These screens are called Journal. The user can register his thoughts as a self-assessment exercise. At the end of each module, he can generate a PDF with all of his thoughts.

The user can also find a Drag and drop and True or False exercises to consolidate his knowledge.

Below is the Learner’s manual book. This manual is part of a “How to plan a GE session?” workshop.
